Roger Netherton taught himself to fiddle at age 11, and at 12, he found his musical home in the traditional old-time music of Missouri, Illinois, and Appalachia. Now, at 15, he’s placed in national competitions (including the 2011 Walnut Valley Old-Time Fiddle Championship and the 2011 Appalachian String Band Festival) and performs regularly with a variety of old-time players in and near his home of St. Louis, Missouri. His various bands — including Playing With Fire (with “Ragtime” Annie Shilliday) and Devil’s Dream (with Alice Sanvito) — can be seen often at dances, festivals, and a variety of other venues in the region. For the C-U Folk and Roots Festival, he’ll be performing with guitarist Matthew Croisant of Champaign, and jamming with any old-time players who want to trade tunes.
